About Voice Classes
Presently available through the William Esper Studio: http://www.esperstudio.com/

Voice and Speech I - Sept - June, 32 weeks, 3 hours a week
The first goal of the training is for each student to open to his own natural vocal gifts. Each voice, when properly trained, is resonant, flexible, spontaneous and unique. The second goal is to learn a General American accent with seemingly effortless articulation, so each student can be clearly understood by a mass audience for both stage and screen.

Voice and Speech II - Sept - June, 32 weeks, 3 hours a week
We begin by opening and extending the actor’s vocal range, quickening his agility with diction, and cleaning up his Standard American accent. We will practice many techniques for speaking classical language including working with imagery, rising inflexions, scansion, and rhythmic builds. We’ll put these vocal, diction, and language skills together in Shaw monologues while learning to express complex arguments in clear, specific, and enjoyable ways. Then we’ll move on to Moliere and Shakespeare scenes, adding the acting challenges of shaping a scene, acting truthfully and fully while using classical diction in iambic pentameter. |

Summer Voice & Speech I
Classes available through the William Esper Studio Mid-June through July. Students learn many exercises to free and open the voice so it becomes more flexible and resonant, as well as learning the basics of clear diction and a solid General American accent.

Summer Shakespeare
Classes available through the William Esper Studio. A six-week series taught by Nancy Mayans and Master Acting Teacher William Esper, Mid -June through July. The six- week Shakespeare intensive begins with an overview of Shakespeare’s life and his artistic contributions as a world-class poet and dramatist. Though this class is mainly on how to act Shakespeare, much of the time is necessarily focused on how to use the language. Most classes will start with a brief physical/vocal warm- up. We will then learn how to handle the poetic text while acting “on the line” in a specific and integrated way.
